Maximum ice thickness before Christmas was only 38 mm at first of
month. There were several violent wind and rain storms and very mild
temperatures for the rest of December

No eagles seen in the nest on the island but hundreds of blackbacked gulls
gathering on the rocks in the middle of the lake
